This module includes pathology models of pulmonary embolus and left atrial occlusion devices, as well as enhancing system functionality with the introduction of TEE probe lateral flexion.

HeartWorks Module 8 comprises these three new elements together with ultrasound simulation and relevant accompanying text.

Pulmonary embolus

This model illustrates many of the echocardiographic findings associated with massive pulmonary embolism. A large thrombus is seen lodged at the bifurcation of the main pulmonary artery. The resulting pathophysiological changes are represented by a dilated, failing right ventricle and associated valve dysfunction. Typical haemodynamic and Doppler ultrasound features have been incorporated.

Left atrial appendage occlusion devices

These three models demonstrate left atrial appendage occlusion devices positioned within appendages of varying morphology, including unilobed, multilobed and hooked variants.

Lateral flexion

The addition of TEE probe lateral flexion further elevates the capabilities of the HeartWorks system, allowing users to refine imaging planes. Lateral flexion may be controlled with on screen icons or by manually rotating the simulator probe wheel.
